Be the one who makes others feel safe!

Heart Dojo’s logo represents the Godai (Japanese concept of the Five Elements) and also recognizes Nêhiyaw pimatisiwin, the Cree way of life. The teachings of the Medicine Wheel have been incorporated into Heart Dojo and will continue to be woven throughout our programming, including Cree language and survival skills. This will be done with culturally sensitive consultation with knowledge keepers, elders, and native Cree language speakers. We are focused on building a bridge between Budo and Nêhiyaw pimatisiwin.

The name Heart Dojo was chosen because I, Natalie, lead with my heart, through kindness and compassion.

We recognize those who came before...

Our school is located in what is colonially referred to as Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. We recognize that colonization, patriarchy, the residential school system, systemic racism, and social divisions have impacted our communities. This organization strives to learn from the existing knowledge of Indigenous peoples around the world, specifically those from the lands on which we practice today, in a way that honors, respects, and follows their guidance. As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we also embrace diverse communities, including LGTBQIA individuals, within our martial arts programs. We look to the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Blackfoot, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and Otipemisiwak (Métis) for guidance so that we may live in a good way while promoting self-defence and martial arts in Red Deer. Thank you to all our relations.
